Juliette Kelley, Transportation Underwriter
Q: What brought you to MJ Kelly?
A: I worked at MJ Kelly from 2006-2008, first in cancellations and then as an assistant underwriter. I went to the agency side as an Account Executive from 2008-2019. In 2019 I had the opportunity to come back to MJ Kelly as an underwriter. I was very excited to work with familiar faces and be back on the wholesale side.
Q: What do you like most about your work?
A: Underwriting presents new challenges every day. It is never boring. I love the “detective” part of underwriting that comes with reviewing a submission. I am a detailed person, so it is the perfect career for me.
Q: How do you keep up with news and trends regarding your industry? What are your go to resources?
A: I keep up with news and trends by reading company newsletters. I also subscribe to IIABA. I have the CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) designation which requires annual seminar updates. Current news and trends are always discussed in those classes.
Q: How do you predict your industry will be different in two years, and how do you see yourself shaping that change?
A: I imagine there will be more carriers going to an online rating platform. In May, I was invited to participate in a usability test of a redesign of a carriers current rating tool into a web application. I was happy to provide feedback and my impressions of the prototype.
Q: Tell us something that we don’t already know about you? What are some of your outside interests/hobbies?
A: I love to roller skate and I used to be on a women’s roller derby team. I also collect miniatures and enjoy assembling miniature dollhouse kits.
